IHHT – intermittent hypoxia-hyperoxia trainingin Mallorca
IHHT – intermittent hypoxia-hyperoxia training, often marketed as “cell training” or “simulated altitude training” – is still a young offering in Mallorca: you lie or sit with a breathing mask and alternately breathe oxygen-poor air (as at 3,000 to 6,000 metres) and oxygen-rich air; a pulse oximeter controls the intervals. The aim is adaptation of the mitochondria and oxygen transport – of interest to road cyclists in training camps as much as to residents with chronic fatigue. Our comparison shows where IHHT in Mallorca is physician-supervised, where it can be combined with exercise and how single sessions, series and subscriptions are priced.

IHHT / altitude training in Mallorca at a glance
intermittent hypoxia-hyperoxia training is still rare in Mallorca: the IUNE Medical Center in Palma offers IHHT embedded in medical care – combined with its cryo chamber, HBOT, autonomic nervous system analysis and sleep modules within its 4D longevity programmes. Bluezone in Illetes has announced IHHT (“coming soon”), so the south-west coast looks set to gain a second location. For road cyclists and triathletes who come to the island for spring training camps, IHHT complements the altitude stimulus that the Tramuntana, with passes up to 1,000 metres, does not provide; for residents with long-Covid symptoms or chronic fatigue the medical supervision at IUNE is the decisive advantage. Prices on request; in Spain single sessions usually cost €80 to €150.

How IHHT / altitude training works – and what the evidence says
During IHHT you breathe through a mask, alternating roughly three to seven minutes of hypoxic air (9–14% oxygen instead of 21%) with normoxic or hyperoxic air. A finger sensor monitors oxygen saturation and heart rate; the device adjusts the intervals individually.
The stimulus resembles a stay at altitude: the body activates the transcription factor HIF-1α, which among other things influences the formation of new mitochondria and blood vessels and the release of erythropoietin. Providers promise more energy, better regeneration and stress resilience.
Clinical data exist for heart failure, COPD, metabolic syndrome and cognitive parameters in older people – mostly small studies with positive signals. A series typically comprises 10 to 20 sessions of 40 to 60 minutes.
Frequently asked questions about IHHT / altitude training in Mallorca
How much does IHHT cost in Mallorca?
Single sessions in Mallorca are usually between € 90 and 165, first sessions with consultation sometimes more. In 10- or 15-session series you typically pay € 55 to 110 per session.
What happens in an IHHT session?
You lie or sit relaxed, wear a breathing mask and a finger sensor. Over 40 to 60 minutes, phases of oxygen-poor and oxygen-rich air alternate; the device adapts the intervals to your saturation. Many users read or doze.
Is IHHT the same as altitude training?
IHHT simulates short stays at altitude alternating with “valley phases” – without you having to move. Classic altitude training combines staying or training at altitude. In Mallorca IHHT is so far available within a medical centre; combined exercise on an ergometer is currently not offered.
How many sessions are needed?
Most providers recommend series of 10 to 20 sessions, one to three times a week, followed by maintenance sessions at longer intervals.
Who should not do IHHT?
With acute infections, uncontrolled high blood pressure, severe heart, lung or coagulation disorders and during pregnancy, IHHT should only be done after consulting a physician.
