At normal air pressure almost all oxygen is transported by red blood cells. When the ambient pressure in the chamber rises, additional oxygen dissolves directly in the plasma – a multiple of the normal amount depending on the pressure level. This “free” oxygen can diffuse into tissue that is poorly supplied via the capillaries.
A session usually lasts 60 to 90 minutes. You sit or lie in the chamber, breathe through a mask or directly the chamber air, and can read or sleep. As pressure builds and releases you need to equalise your ears – as when flying.
HBOT is medically established for clear indications such as diving accidents, CO poisoning or chronic wounds. In the longevity context (regeneration, cognitive performance, long Covid) the evidence is promising but not yet conclusive – serious providers say so openly.

The Seguridad Social and private insurers pay for HBOT only for recognised medical indications in specialised centres (e.g. diving accidents, CO poisoning, certain wound-healing disorders). Longevity and regeneration applications are self-pay; some private supplementary insurances contribute on request.
Hard-shell chambers made of steel or acrylic reach 2.0 ATA and more and allow breathing pure oxygen. Soft-shell (inflatable) chambers usually work at 1.3 to 1.5 ATA, often with oxygen concentrators. For most longevity protocols: higher pressure plus pure oxygen = more intensive application – but also more need for medical assessment.
For regeneration goals providers usually recommend series of 10 to 40 sessions, several times a week. Single sessions are suitable for trying it out or as recovery after exertion. What matters is that the provider proposes a clear protocol geared to your goal.
HBOT is considered safe when applied properly. Contraindications include an untreated pneumothorax, acute respiratory infections, certain lung diseases and some medications. Pressure equalisation must be possible. Serious providers check this before the first session – ideally with a physician involved.
